West Coast Modern Week Returns: Celebrate Architecture, Art, and Design in Style
Whether you’re an architecture buff or just love a good peek inside some incredible homes, West Coast Modern Week is back from July 8 to 13, and it’s bringing all the design inspiration you can handle.
Hosted by the West Vancouver Art Museum, the annual celebration shines a spotlight on West Coast Modernism — a sleek, nature-connected architectural style that grew up right here on the North Shore. Think clean lines, natural materials, and homes that blend right into the forest and shoreline. It’s a style shaped by mountains, rainforest, and ocean views — and it’s pure West Van.
This year's lineup is packed with tours, talks, films, and parties, all exploring the art, legacy, and future of modern design. Here’s a taste of what’s happening:
July 8: It all kicks off with the Launch Party — a great way to meet fellow design lovers and start the week in style.
July 9, 10 & 13: Take a walking tour and explore different facets of Modernism around West Van.
July 9 & 10: Hear from design leaders like John Patkau and attend the Annual Barry Downs Lecture with Dr. Jeff Derksen.
July 10: Catch the film Arthur Erickson: Beauty Between the Lines, celebrating one of Canada’s most iconic architects.
July 12: Don’t miss the West Coast Modern Home Tour, now in its 19th year — your rare chance to explore private homes designed by renowned architects.
July 12: After the home tour, keep the celebration going at the After Party.
July 13: Wrap up the week with a concert by the Jillian Lebeck Trio — a relaxing finale to a week full of creative energy.
Plus, if you haven’t already seen it, the museum’s current exhibition “Patkau Architects: Matter Made Material” is running through July 19 and offers an up-close look at one of the most influential architecture firms in Canada.
