North Vancouver’s Waterfront Park to Get First-of-Its-Kind Swimming Deck on Burrard Inlet
North Vancouver’s waterfront is about to make waves—literally. Swim Drink Fish, in partnership with the City of North Vancouver, has announced plans for an innovative new swimming structure at Waterfront Park, marking the first project of its kind in British Columbia.
The harbour deck will feature generous, protected swimming areas, including an accessible shallow pool, 50-metre swim lanes, and diving platforms—all designed to make swimming in the Burrard Inlet a safe and accessible experience for everyone. The plans also include lounging and seating areas throughout, creating a lively community hub where residents and visitors can connect with the water and one another.
This visionary project is being made possible through a $16 million donation from the Weston family to Swim Drink Fish, along with an additional $5 million in capital funding from the City of North Vancouver.
Beyond recreation, this development represents a larger commitment to reclaiming urban waterfronts and creating inclusive public spaces that bring people back to the shoreline. It’s a bold example of how thoughtful investment can reshape city life and enhance community well-being.
Currently, the design is in the early conceptual phase, focused on feasibility studies and community consultation. The City of North Vancouver will lead intergovernmental discussions and public engagement as the design process moves forward.
If all goes according to plan, construction is set to begin in 2026, with the grand opening anticipated for spring 2027—just in time for a new era of swimming, gathering, and living by the water in North Vancouver.
