Maplewood Farm Turns 50: A Local Gem Celebrates a Big Birthday

July 9, 2025 | See+Do | By Aaron Rossetti

If you grew up on the North Shore, chances are you’ve hand-fed a goat, met a bunny, or posed beside a tractor at Maplewood Farm. This month, the much-loved farm is celebrating a major milestone: 50 years of welcoming families, school groups, and animal lovers of all ages.

Since opening its gates in June 1975, Maplewood Farm has grown from a small “children’s farm” into a full-fledged community hub that blends education, fun, and a little barnyard magic. With over 88,000 visitors in 2024 alone, it’s clear the farm still holds a special place in local hearts.

The farm’s history runs even deeper. The land was first purchased back in 1914 and became a working dairy farm in the 1920s — complete with milk delivery routes through Deep Cove and Lynnmour. The District took it over in 1970, and just four years later, a vision for a family-friendly farm experience became reality.

Fast forward to today, and Maplewood is more than just a cute spot for birthday parties. It’s a place where kids (and adults!) can get up close with animals, learn about sustainable farming, and connect with nature in a hands-on way. The farm has expanded its programs, added seasonal events, and kept evolving with the times — all while sticking to its mission of inspiring care for animals and the environment.

Want to celebrate with them?
Mark your calendar for Saturday, July 19 — when Maplewood Farm hosts its “Farm Fair 2025: 50th Anniversary” event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Expect adorable animals, tasty eats from food trucks, local vendors, and plenty of nostalgia.

Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, this is the perfect time to reconnect with one of the North Shore’s most beloved spots.
