The countdown is on! Saturday, August 23 from 12 PM to 4 PM, Britannia Village will officially open its doors—and you’re invited to be part of history in the making. Nestled along the stunning Sea-to-Sky corridor, this vibrant community is where heritage, nature, and modern living come together.
A Community Rooted in History
Britannia Beach began as a thriving mining hub in the early 1900s, home to one of the largest copper operations in the Commonwealth. It was more than just an industrial site—it was a bustling company town with a school, hospital, sports fields, and community spaces that fostered a strong sense of belonging.
After the mine closed in 1974, the community faced challenges, but its spirit endured. The historic Mill No. 3, a towering 20-storey concentrator building, became the centerpiece of the Britannia Mine Museum, preserving the area’s rich past for future generations.
From Past to Present: A Vision of Renewal
In recent years, Britannia Beach has undergone a remarkable transformation. Environmental restoration paved the way for a thoughtful redevelopment that honors the town’s heritage while creating space for a modern, connected community.
Nine original buildings from the old company town—such as the schoolhouse, church, and cinema—have been lovingly restored and repurposed as shops, cafés, and gathering spaces. New homes have been designed to complement the historic charm, and public art and storytelling highlight both the mining legacy and the cultural heritage of the Indigenous peoples connected to the land.
