Call for a Permanent BC Housing Policy Roundtable Gains Momentum

A new initiative aimed at tackling BC’s housing challenges is gathering province-wide support.

Earlier this month, the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) passed a resolution calling on the Province to create a Permanent Provincial Housing Policy Roundtable. The proposed roundtable would bring together a broad group of voices, including:

  • local governments
  • Indigenous housing organizations
  • market and non-market housing groups
  • academic experts
  • provincial and federal housing ministries

The goal? To build collaborative, evidence-based housing policy that reflects the diverse needs of communities across British Columbia.

The BC Real Estate Association (BCREA), along with a growing coalition of housing stakeholders — from chambers of commerce to landlord associations — has endorsed the move.

This comes at a key time, as Christine Boyle steps into her new role as BC’s Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs. Many are hopeful the Province will act quickly, given the urgency of housing affordability, supply, and policy coordination across the region.

As BCREA’s Government Relations Manager, Jasroop Gosal, explained:

“This resolution represents a major step forward in creating inclusive and effective housing policy. We look forward to working with the new Housing Minister and all stakeholders to ensure this roundtable delivers real results for British Columbians.”

For now, the resolution awaits a formal provincial response. But with such broad-based support, buyers, sellers, and industry professionals alike will be watching closely to see whether a permanent roundtable becomes reality.
